What is the Halikko Relay?
The Halikko Relay is an orienteering event that consists of the Children's Halikko Run and the traditional relay orienteering competition, the Halikko Relay. This year marks the 36th time the Halikko Relay is being held. The event attracts around 1500 orienteering enthusiasts. This year, the event will take place in Hämeenkylä, Salo.
The Halikko Relay event opens with the Children's Halikko Run, which is open to girls up to 13 years old and boys up to 12 years old. The competition is held as a mass start, and the course is approximately 4 kilometers long, slightly longer than the usual competition distance for these age groups.
The Halikko Relay is a 15-leg relay suitable for both club and recreational teams. In legs 2-5, three orienteers run simultaneously, and the runner of the team's second-to-last leg can start only after all three runners of the fifth leg have completed their changeover.
The teams consist of orienteers of different ages. The youngest team members might be in the 14-year-old category, while the oldest can be over 60 years old. The leg lengths vary from 3 kilometers to 7 kilometers. In the open class, there are no team composition requirements. More details about the team composition requirements can be found in the event invitation.
The Halikko Relay offers close competition spectating with public controls, GPS tracking, and live footage from the terrain.
